Monchique Watermill

The Monchique watermill is a nicely  renovated water mill with authentic interior hidden in a valley about 10 mins drive from the Quinta. It’s a favourite hang out spot for locals to have family barbeques at weekends or for locals from further down the coast to come and fill up on delicious Monchique water. Every weekend the key for the water mill is passed on to another local. Marie-Ann prepared a lovely barbeque with salads, beer and invited her friend Claudia to tell stories about Monchique. She researched Monchique’s myths and story telling for her masters and is now a semantics teacher for a design course. Here the three stories she told…

The crazy young woman

shouting at the crack of dawn

her voice ecocide from side to side

left by her husband

crazy of sorrow

haunting the near by woods

——————————–

The black dog

passing on your way to bed

a sign for eternal sleep

but sometimes as for fortune

a good predicator of change.

——————————–

The hidden path ways

in deep and creaking forests

animals pass

but humans don’t

who ever went to seek it out

is not to be seen again.
